I have tutored in England and for a 17 year old student I teach English girl who is studying in Edexcel A-Level Mathematics C2 and S1. I brought her grades up from U/E to a high B in around 5 weeks to 6 weeks.

Tutoring Approach

I always ask the student what they are struggling with when I first meet them. Write all the struggling topics out on a paper and work on each of them slowly (or at a reasonable pace depending on the student's understanding). After the first lesson, I go home and compile exam questions categorizing them into each of their topics. I bring the booklet to each lesson one by one and start by doing textbook questions, teach them, then start on the compiled exam questions. After the session is over, I ask the student to finish the booklet within a week or until the next session. I do not start exam questions until I know the student fully understands how to attack the topic questions. I use this method because this worked for me during O-levels and A-levels and the 17 year old English girl I tutored.
