I build fundamental base in learning which is understanding. Straight As student with phD in chemistry. Currently, 90% of my students all jumped up 2 grades after 6 months of tutoring sessions.

My class is fun, I build understanding sentence by sentence and points by points. I make the subject easy by explain it in a way that is suitable with the student's comprehension.

Tutoring Approach

My students love my classes because of the way I relate textbook concepts/theories with real life applications and how I decipher them into something that even a primary school student would be able to understand; they always tell me that their teachers have never make things this easy to understand. Mathematics and Statistics, once you understand them, you will see the point of learning them and know how much sense they could make! Besides, when it comes closer to exams, I'll focus on teach techniques or smarter ways to hack the marking scheme! I plan lessons according to student's need eg what they are weaker in, how do they prefer to learn, the pace etc; in short, I respect and communicate with my students all the time.

I have been Tutoring A-level students in Physics and Maths for over 3 years. Almost all my tutees have improvements in their grades. I also worked as demonstrator at the Sheffield 2nd Year laboratories. I trained students to use experimental equipment and programming languages. Throughout my PhD, I worked as a lab and tutorial demonstrator, teaching research skills and imparting knowledge to undergraduate Physics students.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the approach you take with a tutee must be flexible. Everybody needs to be approached in a slightly different way in order to maximize their ability to approach a problem on their own when the exam comes around. I would always be willing to give a general overview of the part of the syllabus that the tutee is struggling with, but at the end of the day the tutee and I must work to recognise where they feel their weakest areas are, and change that into something they feel confident about. The strongest learning tool available to the tutee and I will always be past paper / textbook problems, but I prefer not to encourage a tutee to simply memorize a solution. I will try my hardest to teach the tutee the answers to the question, but I also intend to teach them where the answer comes from, without overwhelming them. I will start a session with a recap and ask the student if there are any areas they would like to focus on based on their own insight. Every tutorial I run will then contain an overview of the equations and facts the student will need to face that topic. Over time I will expect the student to be able to recall or recite the techniques they will need to face each topic at the start of the session. The rest of the session is an exercise in confidence building - taking the tutee through questions, asking them to identify the problem, and the techniques required to solve the problem, and then taking them through the solution step-by-step.
