My teaching philosophy has always been linking the study topics to everyday situations. When I am conducting a lecture, I would also constantly link my lectures to popular culture (e.g books and movies) so it would stimulate interest of the students rather than depending the brain to memorise the full details. My approach in teaching is first get to know what the students understand and what they do not understand. Then, I will adjust based on the student's level. Normally, I will start with basic concept first. Then, I will give them lots of example questions with different methods to solve so students will know which method to apply and also when to use and when not to use each methods. Students also will get more familiar with different structured questions and not get stuck if they see questions that are structured differently from what they are familiar with.
