I have taught mathematics for students from Primary 4 to Pre-university mostly under the UK Curriculum (including IGCSE and A-levels). The students I've taught have all passed, most with high grades. I usually teach on a 1-to-1 basis in an open area at the students home. Lessons are normally 2 hours, but some elect for 1 hour. I have taught children with special needs but please note I am not certified for it.

Tutoring Approach

I am someone who will adjust accordingly to the students needs if it proves to be useful.  At the beginning of the lesson I normally conduct a quick review of what's covered previously.  For new topics I teach the theory piece by piece and demonstrate 1 or 2 examples before getting students to do exercises during lessons.  To me it is more important that I get a student to understand a topic in-depth rather than get them to memorise a formula or an algorithm of steps because the latter usually results in just a surface understanding rather than a deep understanding; they know the method works but they don't know why it works.   After a few topics are covered I would normally get a student to do small tests during the lessons (usually no longer than an hour), not only to help them retain topics but also work on proper exam techniques. I try not to restrict myself to the orthodox method of teaching as it may not work for some students.  So I'm constantly researching new methods or creatively thinking of ways that would help a particular student understand certain topics.   However, math can be mundane to some if you don't sometimes inject some things to keep the lessons interesting.  Therefore on occassion I may slip in something unrelated to their syllabus such as logic-based riddles which companies may use in their aptitude tests during their hiring process, or mathematical workings that show bizarre results.
