Tutoring Approach

For my lessons, I adopt the 'straightforward method', meaning I use Japanese to teach Japanese. My private lessons and online lessons' students were able to learn Japanese pronunciation and conversation skills effectively because they listen to (and try to speak) genuine accurate Japanese all the time. While I could translate or explain in Chinese or English, I insist that my students speak, listen, write, read in full Japanese. I go through 90% of the beginner level and 100% of the intermediate and advance level in Japanese. I use picture cards, flash cards, CDs or DVDs to aid my teaching so that I can break away from conventional textbook-based learning routine. My style of teaching is a bit of both American and UK. I like to get the students to interact because I feel if the students are not interested then the lessons taught will not be learnt easily. I always try to divide lessons in small parts and upon completion I try to interact with my students on their understanding. I often ask quick and basic questions on what I taught. The answers help me to understand the level of understanding of the students. It is obvious that some students learn fast than others. But a teacher should understand first the reason behind a student's slow understanding. If the student is unmindful then the teacher needs to teach him/her first how to concentrate. If the student is forgetful, then teacher's duty is to suggest him/her techniques to remember. Every lock has got different keys. It is a teacher's responsibility to find the correct key and unlock the student's mind.

I have experience teaching English to highschool students in Virgina, U.S. I wil only be staying in K.L for around a month from 12/17-1/20 during my winter break. My classes are fun, entertaining and relaxing and the groups are small; no more than 5 per class. Spanish is an easy language if the facilitator uses the right approach and to learn a language it has to be fun, but well prepared; that is, fun with a sense of responsibility and commitment. I focus on the 4 skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking); I do not focus too much on grammar, I'd better have the students discover it by themselves; just as we learn our mother tongues without any awareness of grammar. The textbooks used in class “PRISMA” come from Universidad Politecnica of Madrid - Spain; they were developed specifically to teach Spanish to non-native speakers, they follow the Common European Framework; and they are based on the curriculum of Instituto Cervantes.
