  1. Comparing fractions, decimals and percentages.
  2. WALT 1.We are learning to compare and order decimals, fractions and percentages. 2.We are learning to choose examples, and check if it follows a pattern within specific mathematical criteria
  3. WILF 1.1 can compare decimals, fractions and percentages. 2.1 can order decimals, fractions and percentages. 3.1 can choose examples, and check if they follow certain patterns within specific mathematical criteria.
  4. Starter: Match Me Match the equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages: https://nrich.maths.org/pelmanisms/ main.html?game=fractionsanddecim alsab&timer=on&start=face-up
  5. Comparing Numbers
  6. Always Remember 1. The crocodile mouth eats the bigger number. 67 48 2. If you are given different forms of number, you should change them to the same format before comparing. 14/20 Change the percentage to fraction, then compare.
  7. Square Grid If you are using a square grid, change both numbers to fractions with denominators of 100, then shade the grid before comparing. Let's look at question la, page 122 of the activity book and do it together.
  8. Ordering Numbers
  9. Partner Talk If you were given the following, how would you order them from smallest to greatest? Talk to your partner and come up with some strategies. 740/0 34 0.8
  10. Firstly, remember: 1. Ascending: From the smallest to the greatest. Example: 4, 8, 12, 16,.... 2. Descending: From the greatest to the smallest. Example: 100, 90, 80, 70, .
  11. Second When we need to order the different numbers, the easiest way is to change all of them to decimals. 10/100 7.2 7.2 0.56 0.1 Order from the greatest to the smallest. Would this be easy? Is it easier to order the numbers now?
  12. Third When writing the final answers, always use the original form. 7.2 10/100 7.2 0.56 0.1 Always change the final answer to the original form.
  13. If all of the numbers are 1. Make sure all t e enomna ors are the same. After that, you can order them. For example, order the following from the smallest to the greatest. 5/12 9/48 7/24 Change the denominators to 48, then order them. Try this on your whiteboard.
  14. Fraction Strips We can also use fraction strips when ordering fractions. Let watch a video: https://www.youtube.com/watc
  15. Fraction Strips Now you try using fraction strips. Order the following from the smallest to the biggest. 1/3 , 5/9 , 3/5 , 8/10
  16. Question TIME
  17. 1. 2. Order the following Order from the smallest to the biggest: 1. 4.3 , 7.9, 45.78 2. 78%, 12.45, 1%, 17/23 Order from the biggest to the smallest: 1. 2. 68%, 110%, 23%, 3/4 72 , 48.6, 98/12
  18. Recap 1.When comparing or or ering, change the numbers to the same form, then compare or order. 2. You can use fraction strips when ordering fractions. Just make sure the strips are all drawn in the same size. 3.When using a square grid, make sure the denominators of the fractions are 100.
