| Approach | Approach: Pre-tutoring session, I would like to know if there are specific topics the students would like to discuss about. Also, I'll ask how in depth would they want the discussion to be and how proficient they are with said topic.
I will arrive around 10 minutes earlier (excluded from my hours) should the student request to ask anything outside of the pre-determined topic of discussion. The session will proceed with discussing the pre-determined subject, focusing on the scope of what the students learn in textbooks as the sole source of reference.
After the session, I am willing to entertain any question from students who are curious to learn more, with one rule. Whatever is discussed, will be the real theories of the knowledge we are discussing, more often than not outside the scope of the syllabus. I get a lot of physics questions through this method of communication and I'm always happy to share.
Often times I engage in trying to understand what they understand about a subject matter before I go into explaining the subject itself. More often than we realize, children have their own insight on the knowledge they have and I often learn a lot from them too. |
