My name is Thhivya Perumalu, and I am a graduate of Institute Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Tengku Ampuan Afzan. Over the past years or months, I have gained diverse work experience in various fields. Initially, I worked at Sjkt Benta, Pahang and Sjkt Bentong, Pahang for 1 year and 8 months, where I had the opportunity to teach Bahasa Melayu, English, and Tamil to Year 1 until 6 students. Additionally, I had the privilege of being a sponsor for extracurricular or volunteer work. Given my active involvement in sports during my time in school, I was thrilled to utilize some of that training as a curriculum developer for Bahasa Melayu.

Later on, I made a transition to Johor Bahru where I taught Year 1 until 6. Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I had the chance to coach sports, which turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable. It was a rewarding experience to engage with students outside the traditional classroom setting.

I am genuinely excited to bring my pedagogical skills and subject expertise to your school and have the privilege of getting to know a new group of students and colleagues.

I teach lessons that are truly tailor-made to my students. The way I teach will be informed by them and their abilities. The way I structure my questions, and even the way I ask the questions, are all driven by their abilities and where they are in their development of thinking. With lots of experience teaching in schools, I have gained unique insight into how teachers and lecturers think, and what they would like to see from students engaged in private teaching. I will ask to see if they have noticed an improvement.

Short-term gain is not the only focus. I aim to help students in the long term by also discussing revision strategies and memory aids to ensure that topics covered in sessions will remain fresh and exam-ready.

I studied in Singapore for the Singapore-GCE A-level on ASEAN scholarship. I was the consistent honor roll achiever in my junior college for Science stream (I took Bio, Chem, Math, Econ). Regarding my tutoring experience, I provided free English tuition to a 9-year-old Indonesian boy to enhance his English speaking and English writing skills. Through this experience, I realized that it is of paramount importance to observe and discover students' needs when they are too introverted to reveal their queries, especially during online classes. When I was a student, I prioritized the understanding of the overall concept of the topics rather than doing practices blindly.

Tutoring Approach

I will ask my students to share with me the topics or specific areas that they do not understand before the class to have a better understanding of their misconceptions. I will work on their mistakes first and then enhance their understanding with the materials I prepare. After the class, I will assign some questions that specifically target their misconceptions to ensure they truly grasp the topic. The work will be marked and commented on for further improvement.
