I have been Tutoring A-level students in Physics and Maths for over 3 years. Almost all my tutees have improvements in their grades. I also worked as demonstrator at the Sheffield 2nd Year laboratories. I trained students to use experimental equipment and programming languages. Throughout my PhD, I worked as a lab and tutorial demonstrator, teaching research skills and imparting knowledge to undergraduate Physics students.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the approach you take with a tutee must be flexible. Everybody needs to be approached in a slightly different way in order to maximize their ability to approach a problem on their own when the exam comes around. I would always be willing to give a general overview of the part of the syllabus that the tutee is struggling with, but at the end of the day the tutee and I must work to recognise where they feel their weakest areas are, and change that into something they feel confident about. The strongest learning tool available to the tutee and I will always be past paper / textbook problems, but I prefer not to encourage a tutee to simply memorize a solution. I will try my hardest to teach the tutee the answers to the question, but I also intend to teach them where the answer comes from, without overwhelming them. I will start a session with a recap and ask the student if there are any areas they would like to focus on based on their own insight. Every tutorial I run will then contain an overview of the equations and facts the student will need to face that topic. Over time I will expect the student to be able to recall or recite the techniques they will need to face each topic at the start of the session. The rest of the session is an exercise in confidence building - taking the tutee through questions, asking them to identify the problem, and the techniques required to solve the problem, and then taking them through the solution step-by-step.

I have taught English for more than 10 years in diverse academic and corporate settings and have experience in developing lessons for a wide range of students and learning outcomes. Adult learners in my class build English language skills like writing emails, delivering effective presentations, and socialising at the workplace. I specialise in PTE Academic test preparation and academic English. In addition, I teach students at upper primary and secondary level.

Being an actuarial graduate from the UK, over the years, I have mastered the Malaysian system of education. My expertise is exam techniques, scoring strategy, spotting questions and easy learning methods including KBAT/HOTS application. I also coach students to prepare for their abroad university entrance including SAT/TOFEL/IELTS and detailed consultation on degree/career choices. I strongly believe that learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with passion and attended to with diligence. Hence, my diverse experience and unique teaching method will definitely help students not only to obtain excellent results but also build character and prepare for the future challenges.

Before we start, there will be an honest conversation session with the parents to understand their expectations. Usually, the first session which is a trial session, will be used to gauge what standard the student is at and direct feedback will be given to the parents. Based upon the grasping ability of the students, learning methods will be taught.  The best materials like workbooks and notes will be recommended. Tutoring Approach

To start off, I will first go through the student’s study plan (if he/she has one) to ensure maximum coverage of the required syllabus, and more. My focus is more on problem solving (the more the better) instead of coaching on theory and formulas. Students are highly encouraged to discuss any questions that they are having problems with. The ideal target is to complete critical topics way before the actual examination to enable student to try out trial papers and past examination questions. Tuition Duration: Maximum 2 hours, with about 5-10 minutes break in between. Student must have a positive attitude and open to asking questions to enable effective communication and coaching session.

The best tutoring experience I've had was when I worked with a student who was struggling with math. Initially, they lacked confidence and found the subject daunting. However, through personalized attention, patient explanations, and tailored teaching methods, I helped them gain a deeper understanding of the concepts. Witnessing their gradual improvement and seeing their confidence grow was incredibly rewarding. Eventually, the student not only mastered the material but also developed a newfound enthusiasm for math.
